Rehrig
International, one of the largest manufacturers of plastic shopping carts in
the world, wanted to offer a national retailer a new design. The new cart had
to maintain rigid performance and safety standards while facilitating the store's
desire to enhance their identity as an upscale mass marketer. |

While
maintaining the structural characteristics of tubular steel, we eliminated the
pedestrian, geometric look of standard carts by incorporating graceful arcs
into the design. Based on our research into the way consumers shop and the variety
of merchandise they purchase at said stores, we added useful features such as
hand holds on the front of the cart and a tray for holding small items like
cosmetics. To promote the store brand, we prominently featured their logo in
strategic positions on the cart. |

Rehrig's
new shopping cart provides the major retailer with a contemporary and distinctive
image for what was a mundane and pedestrian tool. The cart's unique appearance
will help the retailer extend the return it gets from its brand identity. |
