Smart MarketFebruary 23, 2010 at 8:59 AM by Dan StipeIn the medical device industry, designers often deal with decision makers who are medical doctors or scientists trained in specialized fields. In order to communicate effectively with them, device designers need to quickly get up to speed with the scientific terms and jargon that medical and scientific people use in their daily interactions with colleagues. Credibility goes out the window if you can’t speak the language. Decision makers in the medical community tend to be a sophisticated bunch. Influencing them takes logical, fact-based argument. Still, they look to designers to take them beyond analysis and into the realm of intuitive possibility. Give them the facts, but give them the wondrous as well. That’s smart.
