Nicholson File Company had developed a new file tooth design that they believed could be used as a superior alternative to sand paper. Nicholson needed an ergonomic tool to which the steel file plates could attach.
We developed a form that leads the consumer from the old technology to the new: the form is reminiscent of a traditional sanding block, but with a number of significant differences. We designed the complex curvature to perfectly fit the palm of a large variety of hands. We gave the front and back of the tool different angles, which gives the user variable holding positions to reduce fatigue. We recessed the sides to provide a natural place for the fingers and thumb to grip, for greater control and power.
Nicholson's SandShark won the retailer's choice award at the National Hardware Show and is featured in major mass merchandising locations nationwide. The product signals a new direction in sanding technology.
