Lufkin, a world leader in the tape measure business, saw a lucrative opportunity in the market for ultrasonic tapes. Stringent design constraints were dictated by the fact that the tool is used in a position that does not always allow for visual readout. The product had to communicate to the user by both touch and sound. Further, a round sonic horn and a flat keypad had to be combined into a product that fits in one hand or in a shirt pocket.
We designed the grip in such a way that it's both comfortable and easy to use in the required manner. We slimmed the keypad, made the keys special shapes and colors so they could be recognized easily by sight or touch, and arranged them in simple, logical order. We designed a large, easy to read display. And we combined it all in a way that achieved a distinctive, award-winning look.

Lufkin's venture echoed of success:

"Our new product quickly made a name for itself in a highly competitive market."
